I agree with you. Yet Nirmala was also exploited by Sekaran. Just as he made Soundari fall for him he made Nirmala also by taking advantage of her poverty and marital status. She didn't get married due to her chevvai dhosham also. At that young age she too would have dreamt of a colourful married life which she couldn't get even at her late twenties. Poverty was also an impediment. All these made her fall for Sekar's honey dipped words. The moment he forced her to abort she would have realised her position,yet it was too late to return back. Being an uneducated village girl she or her family would only think to patch up the blunder by getting married to the same person. Sekar was well aware of that.

Once his lust got satiated regularly with Nirmala his mind started to look for other things -children and their love. He didn't bother much about Nirmala not getting pregnant. So she was the looser betrayed by him. Ofcourse its her karma towards Soundari that has brought her to this place.

Sekar was not a womanizer. He was a selfish person who cared only about his desires and pleasures. Nirmala never disappointed him in that way and so there was no need for him to search another woman.
He was neither loyal to Soundari nor had respect for Nirmala's loyalty towards him. This is my perception. So I felt pity for Nirmala.
 
I don't feel any sympathy towards Nirmala ... Women like her deserve no sympathy ... she used Soundari's health issue to her advantage and went with Shekar for money .. Shekaran understands it inwardly that's why he longed for soundari in his deathbed ... Nirmala's love for him was more for lust and money ... If she had felt sorry she wouldn't have forced him to move to trivandrum ... she never had to toil for her livelihood after marriage ... had a secured life while Soundari toiled with two little children solely because of her .. Shekaran's death bed repentence and all just nonsense ...
