Regarding Anjana, she herself obeyed her dad and so if at all her uncle asks for her, his stand will be disrepected - even worser than when jayaram spoke for kalki. Remeber sargunam was alive and active when Anjana was in that stage.
Comimg back to kalki's issue, she made her studies an issue and is fighting for that. Who bought application in various colleges? The previous year too, jaga tried to help her. As usual Udhai denies. So kalki decides to show her determination for Journalism by wasting one year.
Udhai only pay heed to Yamuna's words and not to any other persons' words. Utter partiality which continues with his nephew too. With out trust and respect for one's words, any bond can't be termed intimate. Udhai has lot of anger for his sister due to her betrayal, yet only respects their words because he is mentally ever.. Forever close only with his sister. Everbody are a step back in his affection ladder. Coincidentally Sargunam's death happens.

Here another angle is, Jayaram can't make a fuss and fasting like Yamuna because of typical பெண் வீட்டு mentality. கல்கி was family oriented., She had good support and attachment from her amma, akka.. not like Yamuna whose mother was not supportive and no one to share her true feeling, so பறவை சூர்யாவை பார்க்கவும் பறந்து போயாச்சு. She had more good reason to go with Suryaa when compared to her family.

Whereas Kalki family attachment made her to fight within house and get acceptance from her father. அவ நினைச்சது அப்பா சம்மதம் இதான் கல்கிக்கு வேணும் even in education, her marriage and tour too.

Last point matum naan கொஞ்சமா disagree பண்றேன். Because Jega is a genuine person.. He was friendly with Anjana all the time, affectionate with Kalki all the time. He tries his best to help.

And அவன் நிலை ரொம்பவே matured. Because anyone will feel pain when someone come suddenly and take over our loved one, அந்த கஷ்டம் இருந்தாலும் practical ah நினைச்சு அவன் கல்கி கல்யாணம் வருவான். அவ மனசு கஷ்டப்பட கூடாதுனு. அவன் அப்போ பெரிய மனுஷன் தானே?
